What About My Personal Story?
My story? I will keep it brief as I’ve shared it before on the blog. I graduated college and landed a job for a midsize bank. My goal in the beginning was to only be with the company for about a year but 7 years later I was still there.
Don’t get me wrong, the company was amazing. I had tons of opportunity to learn, expand on my skills and my income nearly doubled while I was there, without changing positions.
But, my heart just wasn’t in it. I had always wanted to work for myself, run my own business, work from home, have unlimited income potential, etc.
So, in the last year or year and a half at the job, I set out on a journey to find my business. I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I knew I was gonna find it.
Before I landed my successful ecommerce store, I tried a bunch of stuff, including freelancing writing, selling gigs on Fiverr, selling on Amazon and eBay, selling used electronics, etc.
The first week in my ecommerce business, I made around $25. This was so exciting to me and gave me the fuel to keep going. Soon after, I was earning $1,000/month and it grew from there. A year after starting, I was making enough to replace my fulltime income so..I quit!
Here is the EXACT recipe I used to get there:
Step 1.) Find Your Passion
I stumbled a lot here. I tried many different things before finally landing on what worked. Make it easy on yourself. Start with what you are passionate about. Look at your hobbies, your background, your education. What can you teach people? What can you help people with? What can you sell people?
Step 2.) Craft Your Plan
Create a business plan. I didn’t do this and regret it. Put something on paper. It doesn’t have to be a fancy 100 page business plan. You can create an easy document highlighting what your goals are, where you want to be in 3 years, 5 years, etc.
Step 3.) Execute Your Plan
Execute it! You’ve laid out what you wanna do. Now, do it! Jump in, both feet first. Do trial and error, testing, get opinions, talk to family and friends, etc. Make sure you have a mechanism in place to measure your results, like Google Analytics, for example, which can track your website traffic.
Step 4.) Measure Your Results, Change, Keep Going
Keep track of your results. What’s working, what’s not, are you meeting your goals, what can you change, do changes need to be made? Ask yourself these questions and more. Then, keep going.
That’s it! You might be looking at these 4 steps with a question mark but this is exactly what I did. It landed me a successful ecommerce store and to go on becoming a blogging entrpreneur, teaching others how to monetize their passion and be a successful business person.
